| Subject | The re-opening of the remodeled Bandium Reading Room | ||

Gangdong-gu (Gu Mayor Lee Jung-hun) will reopen on August 5th after remodeling the Bandium Reading Room located on the 4th floor of the Korean Braille Library in Amsa-dong (36 Sangam-ro 4-ga-gil). The name has also been changed from Gangdong-gu Youth Reading Room to Bandium Reading Room. The name bandium was selected through a public contest as a compound word of 'firefly', which symbolizes Hyeongseoljigong (螢雪之功), and 'um', which means space. It contains the meaning of a space that brightens the dreams and hopes of Gangdong-gu residents. Bandium Reading Room is the only municipal youth reading room created with the purpose of providing convenience facilities to local residents when the Korean Braille Library was built in 1997. The reading room, which has been in operation for 23 years this year, has been remodeling after collecting residents' opinions, while the residents' requests for environmental improvement have been continuing due to the deterioration of the facility. Koo recently pondered the fact that the reading room is demanding a different demand from the existing reading room structure, such as the increasing number of people studying in open spaces such as cafes. Therefore, it was created as a cafe-type open reading space separate from the personal reading space to reflect the preferences of users nowadays as a resting space and open space for users. In addition, in order to improve the reading room environment and provide a comfortable learning space for users, internal toilet work and all desks and chairs in the reading room were replaced. "The old youth reading room has been reborn as a Bandium reading room where all residents can use it as a comfortable space at an affordable price," said Lee Jung-hun, head of Gangdong-gu. He announced his future plans to make efforts to promote 'Culture City Gangdong' by creating a Gangdong-type Book Cafe Library, a cozy place to meet. On the other hand, the reading room, which has been closed since August 5 last year, was closed in response to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) even after construction was completed in March this year, and was reopened in exactly one year. For the time being, it will be limited to the distance seating system and quarantine management to prevent the spread of Corona 19. It will be operated with time reduction (09:00~18:00), limited number of users (50% seating operation), limited commuter pass (use of one-day pass). |
